About
I have been in photography for over 30 years as a professional and an educator. I began taking photos in high school. I wanted to document the people and places around me. Early on I decided I wanted to continue with photography and attended Odessa College’s photography program, then went on to Sam Houston State University. Nelson Schott, a professional photographer in Odessa who I assisted with weddings, sports, and event photography throughout college, was my mentor during this time. I received my Bachelor and Masters degrees in photography from SHSU.
During the late 1980’s I worked for a portrait studio in Commerce TX. In 1990 I moved to Dallas to pursue commercial shooting with former classmates. I soon went to work for Pounds Photographic Lab as a traditional custom color printer in the darkroom and worked my way up to supervising the custom printing and digital imaging department of the lab.
In 2002 I moved to Ohio to work as the manager of a digital imaging lab at Bowling Green State University. From 2002 to 2006 I managed the lab and students working under me, and taught photography classes part time at the Toledo Museum of Art, Owens Community College, and BGSU. In 2006 I returned to Texas to teach fulltime in photography at Amarillo College. I am currently the coordinator for the Visual Arts department of the college.
Commercially, my interests are in architecture and commercial photography. Personally, I love landscape and nature photography and try to find ways to blend this into my work. I enjoy teaching students new to photography and am fortunate to have access and teach tradition film photography and darkroom techniques.
